Arsenal could be poised for a major summer transfer shakeup as they target Newcastle United’s influential midfielder Bruno Guimarães.

Reports suggest the Gunners are willing to trigger Guimarães’s £100m/€117 million release clause. However, to finance the deal, Arsenal might need to part ways with promising academy products Reiss Nelson, Emile Smith Rowe, and Eddie Nketiah.

Arsenal eye Bruno Guimarães, could sacrifice academy products

Arsenal are expected to make significant moves in the transfer market this summer and it seems they have a focus on signing Newcastle United‘s star midfielder Bruno Guimarães.

According to Football Insider, the Gunners are prepared to trigger Guimarães’s £100m million release clause, but must first generate income to comply with Premier League financial regulations.

To facilitate the signing, Arsenal have reportedly identified three academy graduates as potential departures: Reiss Nelson, Emile Smith Rowe, and Eddie Nketiah.

While all three are currently in the first-team squad, their sale could create the necessary financial flexibility for a major acquisition like Guimarães. Nelson is valued at £13m, Smith Rowe £21.5m and Nketiah £26m.

Why Bruno Guimarães?

The 26-year-old Brazilian has become one of the Premier League’s most coveted midfielders since his arrival at Newcastle in 2022 and is a player Arsenal were strongly linked with before.

His pivotal role in Newcastle’s recent success, including Champions League qualification, has attracted attention from top clubs, including Manchester City.

Guimarães is reportedly open to a transfer if the right opportunity arises with his release clause is set to expire on June 30th.
