The signing of Andy Diouf has given Cristian Chivu his wish for a midfielder with a new tactical profile at Inter Milan.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Yesterday, Inter Milan completed the signing of midfielder Andy Diouf from Lens.
The Nerazzurri reportedly paid a fee worth around €25 million in total to sign the Frenchman. He became their fourth signing of the summer after Petar Sucic, Luis Henrique, and Ange-Yoan Bonny.
Meanwhile, Inter’s move for Diouf followed interest in the likes of Roma’s Manu Kone and young Rennes midfielder Djaoui Cisse.
This makes it apparent that the Nerazzurri saw midfield as an important area to intervene in before the transfer window closes.
According to the Corriere dello Sport, Cristian Chivu had specifically asked Inter for a signing in midfield.
The Romanian specifically wanted a player who could play in front of the defense.
Chivu wanted a midfielder with the athleticism to cover ground and win challenges in front of the backline, similar to the role that Mandela Keita had performed for him at Parma.
Furthermore, the Inter coach wanted a midfielder who could drive forward with the ball at his feet.
Whilst there is no shortage of technical quality in Inter’s midfield, it is more a matter of passing. Therefore, Chivu wanted a midfielder who could go more direct.
