Club América are just a few days away from starting their preseason slate but, according to members of the Ecuadorian press, the Eagles are very close to landing their next signing.

As first reported by journalist Javier Avila Pauta, América and LAFC have everything arranged to make a deal for midfielder José Cifuentes.

Cifuentes is a 22-year-old Ecuadorian international who joined LAFC in January 2020 from Ecuadorian outfit CD Universidad Católica in a $3m deal.

Cifuentes has went on to make 33 appearances, contributing three goals and three assists, while being a consistent starter in LAFC’s first 10 games this season.

The potential signing has raised many eyebrows around Mexico considering that he would occupy an international roster spot.

Including Nico Castillo, América are already over the foreign player limit, so many suggest that landing Cifuentes would mean that América have found a buyer for Richard Sánchez.

According to the report, América would announce the signing in the next couple days, so we will soon find out whether this is truth or fiction.
