Paul Pogba is ready to put pen to paper on a new contract at Manchester United

According to L’Equipe (h/t Express), Paul Pogba has already informed his friends that he is planning on staying at Manchester United amidst transfer speculation.

The Frenchman has had an uncertain future at Old Trafford ever since he entered the final 18 months of his current contract at United. Last December, the players’ agent Mino Raiola suggested that the midfielder might be playing his last season in the famous red jersey this season, but it looks like there has been a change of heart.

The 28-year-old has started the season in excellent form as he has provided seven assists in six league starts for the Manchester-based club. Now, his representatives are keen on making him one of the highest earners in the Premier League.

Currently, his teammate Cristiano Ronaldo is the highest earner in the Premier League with a whopping salary of £510k-per-week. Kevin De Bruyne is second on the list with a staggering £400k-per-week.

Thus, Pogba, who is currently on £290k-per-week, could come close to these numbers if he does put pen to paper on a new deal. Solskjaer has stated previously that United will have to compete for silverware this season and convince the French international that they want to keep him beyond this season.

They have added some big names in Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Raphael Varane this summer, stating their intent to win things. Thus, the fact that the 28-year-old will be playing in a team capable of winning silverware coupled with an improvement on his salary might just have been enough to stay.

However, an official announcement is yet to be made, and unless he signs a new contract, he will be a free agent come next summer.
