Barcelona attacking midfielder Alex Collado finds himself in a real pickle.

The 22-year-old, after enjoying a fine 2020/21 season, looked set for a prominent role with the first team ahead of the new season. However, that did not turn out to be the case as manager Ronald Koeman made it clear that he was not going to play a major part with the senior team.

As a result, talks of a loan move to Club Brugge surfaced during pre-season, only for the move to fall through. Later, it looked like Collado could be headed to Sheffield United on a season-long temporary spell.

However, due to some paperwork issues, the transfer to the EFL Championship club also collapsed late on the deadline day of the summer, leaving the 22-year-old in limbo.

Collado, as things stand, has not been registered with the Barcelona first-team, with that train having seemingly passed if reports are to be believed.

Now, it is being claimed that the 22-year-old might not be eligible to be registered for the Catalans’ B team either. Indeed, a report from journalist Adria Albets via Que Thi Jugues, claims that Collado’s situation looks very bad as he stares at the prospect of not playing for the B team or the senior team for the first half of the ongoing season.

It states that Collado was deregistered from the B team in order for his move to Sheffield United to be completed. And even though the move fell through, there is no way to terminate the process of his deregistration, leaving him neither here nor there.

Collado, to date, has managed just two senior appearances. He has featured 83 times for the Barca B side, bagging 18 goals and 11 assists. A talented and versatile attacking midfielder, it remains to be seen how his current situation develops.
