Rennes to continue Brice Samba pursuit, despite setback

As things stand this Saturday, Brice Samba’s (30) move from RC Lens to Ligue 1 rivals Stade Rennais is off. However, the latter will continue to push to sign the France international, RMC Sport understands.

An agreement in principle had been reached over the sale of the Lens captain with the side to net €14m in the deal. Will Still then seemingly confirmed the impending deal in his press conference, saying that Samba would be absent this weekend as he completed a move away. The goalkeeper himself had also agreed terms over a four-and-a-half-year deal with Les Rennais.

However, Lens then pulled the plug on the deal. RMC Sport understands that the decision was taken as a reactionary measure to Rennes’ communication policy. The Breton club recently signed former player Seko Fofana with a couple of nods to Lensois culture in the unveiling video.

However, despite the setback, RMC Sport understands that Rennes are set to continue in their pursuit of Samba with a view to getting the move over the line, despite the obvious tensions between the two clubs.
