Having already brought in Enzo Le Fée and Ludovic Blas earlier this summer – from Lorient and Nantes respectively – Rennes now look set to bring in another reinforcement from a Ligue 1 rival.
According to L’Équipe this afternoon, the Bretons are closing in on the signing of French international right-back Ruben Aguilar from Monaco.
Rennes, who will play in the Europa League group stages this season, had been in the market for an experienced right-back in the wake of club captain Hamari Traoré’s free transfer to Real Sociedad. L’Équipe add that Toulouse’s Mikkel Desler had been considered as a potential option, but the club have now decided to make their move for Aguilar.
The 30-year-old, formerly of Auxerre and Montpellier, made 20 appearances for the Principality side last season and earned his sole cap for Les Bleus in 2020 in a friendly against Finland. Details regarding the transfer fee or the contract that Aguilar will sign at Rennes have yet to filter through.
