Rennes have rejected a €20m bid from Bundesliga pace setters Bayer Leverkusen for the signing of promising prospect Désiré Doué (18), according to a report this Wednesday from L’Equipe. Doué is the latest gem to come out of Rennes’ famed academy. The electric winger is a mainstay on the left side of Julien Stéphan’s 4-man midfield. Doué was on the scoresheet last Friday during Rennes’ 3-2 away win at Lyon.

Doué’s pace and dribbling ability have not gone unnoticed with Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund reportedly keeping tabs on the Stade Rennais youth product. L’Equipe report tonight that Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen have blinked first in lodging an opening €20m bid to their Ligue 1 counterparts. The outlet adds that the bid has been swiftly rejected by the Bretons, who consider Doué as “an integral part of the club’s project“. Doué is tied with Stade Rennais with a contract running until 2026.

L’Equipe understands that Doué is expected to be heavily courted next summer, should he continue to impress with Les Rouge et Noir. The 18-year-old winger registered two goals and as many assists in Rennes’ last five Ligue 1 games.
