According to Foot Mercato, Stade Rennais have reached an agreement with SSC Napoli for Leo Østigård (24). Rennes will look to pay around €8 million for the former Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back who still has two years left on his contract.
Østigård joined Napoli from Brighton in 2022 and was part of the squad that won the Serie A side’s third-ever Scudetto. However, he has struggled with consistent game time since making the swap from the south coast of England to the south of Italy.
The Norwegian international had hoped that a change of manager at the start of the last campaign coupled with the departure of Kim Min-Jae (27) from the backline would have provided him with more game time. And while he made more appearances (32) than his first season (11) there was a sense that Østigård was looking for a new chapter in his career.
Rennes had been interested in the Napoli defender during the winter transfer window, and now look close to securing their target as they hope to bolster their defence ahead of a new season without European football.
