According to an update from Foot Mercato, Stade Rennais have reached an agreement with Olympique de Marseille for the loan of Ismaël Koné (22) for €14 million although some final details still need to be resolved before the deal can be completed.
Koné became the first signing for Marseille as they looked to kickstart a new era under Roberto De Zerbi, but patience with the Canadian international has worn out. He will now likely arrive at Rennes where he will join Marseille’s second summer signing Lilian Brassier.
Rennes have been highly active during the transfer window as they look to bolster their squad. The club have been drawn into an unexpected relegation battle, although a first victory under head coach Habib Beye has lifted the team out of the relegation zone.
Rennes now sit two points above the relegation playoff spot which is occupied by AS Saint-Étienne who lost over the weekend to Lille OSC 4-1.
