Leo Ostigard (25) was one of many signings that did not live up to expectations at Stade Rennais last summer. The Norway international arrived for €7m from Napoli in the summer, but by February, he was out on loan. His future looks to lie away from Roazhon Park, L’Équipe understands.
Newly-appointed sporting director Loïc Désiré has a lot of work to do. Arriving from RC Strasbourg Alsace, he has inherited a situation in which it is vital to sell a large portion of the squad, many of whom have been signed in the past 12 months.
Ostigard, with his considerable salary of €280,000 per month, is one of those that Rennes are most keen to offload. The defender spent the second half of last season on loan at Hoffenheim. That deal included an option to make the move permanent. Currently, the Bundesliga side are prioritising another option, Union Saint-Gilloise’s Koki Machida, however, should they re-focus thier attention on the Norwegian, the deal will be worth less than the buy option initially negotiated.
A return to Italy is also a very real possibility. L’Équipe understands that Pisa and Fiorentina are interested in the former Napoli defender.
