RMC Sport have confirmed L’Équipe’s reports that Rennes are interested in bringing in Steve Mandanda, having reached out to try and sign the Marseille goalkeeper over the coming transfer window.
However, the Bretons face two major obstacles in their quest to sign the former French international. The first is that the OM legend has no intention of leaving the club, and still has two years left on his current deal.
Despite losing his starting place to Pau López, the Frenchman has seen an increase in playing time towards the end of the season.
Mandanda has 612 appearances with the club, over a spell which has run since 2008 and was only interrupted by a year at Crystal Palace. He notably won the Ligue 1 title in 2010, as well as three Coupes de la Ligue. He is also a World Cup winner with France.
Rennes also want to move on current goalkeeper Alfred Gomis before making a move, with the 28-year-old, who arrived in 2020 from Dijon as Édouard Mendy’s replacement, not convincing in his time at the Roazhon Park. The Senegal international is under contract with the club until 2025, making a potential transfer more difficult.
