According to Foot Mercato, it is still unknown who is currently the favourite to become the new manager of Rennes, as they continue to consider several candidates. Julien Stéphan is expected to lose his job in charge of Les Rouges et Noirs after a torrid run of results at the start of the Ligue 1 season.

The Breton club have won three of their first ten matches in the league this season, leaving them languishing in 13th place, just two points outside of the relegation zone. This has made the former Strasbourg boss’ position almost untenable following a convincing 3-0 defeat against Auxerre. However, the name of his successor is unclear.

There is a list of 5 names currently linked with the soon-to-be vacant position at Roazhon Park. Foot Mercato reports that Rudi Garcia and Sergio Conceiçao’s chances of becoming the new Rennes manager have decreased and links between the parties have cooled.

L’Équipe understands that Jorge Sampaoli is a name who is growing momentum within the ranks at the Ligue 1 club, yet it seems the former Marseille boss being named the new coach is not yet leading to a unanimous agreement at the board level. Former Red Star head coach Habib Beye is in a good position to become the new manager, with Wilfried Nancy being considered as a plan B.
