Younes Taha is determined to make his mark at FC Twente. While the 22-year-old attacker has not yet won a starting place in Enschede, partly due to a broken leg, he is not giving up. Furthermore, he’s certainly not waiting for a call from old trainer Dick Schreuder, as he dispelled murmurings in an interview with Voetbal International.
Taha came over from PEC Zwolle in 2023, a place where he was a creative force. At FC Twente, however, he has yet to make his mark. Taha only made his comeback from a broken leg two months ago and on Thursday, he finally had something to celebrate in Tukkers colours. The attacking midfielder and winger scored the winner in extra time against NEC Nijmegen in the play-offs for European football.
“I don’t want to go anywhere. I want to show everyone here what I can do. One hundred per cent. I am convinced of my qualities, now I have to show them to others. I want to do that at FC Twente.”
Schreuder doesn’t have to call him either. The new NEC coach let him flourish at PEC and is still very charmed by him. “We know each other well, that’s true. But I’m not thinking about that. Only about FC Twente. I want to play in the Conference League with this club next year. That’s my ambition.”
FC Twente will face AZ in the play-off final on Sunday evening. The winner will qualify for the second preliminary round of the Conference League.
