Deal includes no option or obligation to buy so summer signing will return to Stamford Bridge

Veiga is set to join the Italian giants on a straight six-month deal until the end of the season, with no option or obligation to buy included.

Juventus will cover the Portuguese international’s wages and pay a loan fee of around £4.2million, having beaten off interest earlier in the window from Borussia Dortmund.

Veiga was pictured arriving in Turin on Sunday night and on Monday morning signed autographs for fans waiting outside the club’s J Medical facility.

The 21-year-old only joined Chelsea from FC Basel in the summer but has found Premier League football hard to come by, playing just 176 minutes in the competition this season.

Veiga’s last league appearance was as a late substitute against Tottenham in early December and he was left out of the squad for the Blues’s games against Wolves and Manchester City last week ahead of his move.

Despite his lack of league exposure, though, Veiga’s performances in the cup competitions earned him a maiden international call-up in the autumn.

It is understood that the versatile defender’s desire to establish himself at centre-back, where he started both games for Portugal during the last international break, is a major factor in the move.

Veiga has mainly been used at left-back, and occasionally in midfield, by Enzo Maresca, who responded to his recent injury crisis at centre-back by promoting youngster Josh Acheampong and then recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace.
