The Portuguese tactician submitted his resignation, according to TUDN’s Israel Romo, forcing Club Leon to immediately launch the search for a new head coach.

Paiva departs after just one campaign with the Liga MX side. He joined from Independiente on May 25 this year and led Leon to 10th place during the Apertura before losing 0-1 to Cruz Azul in the first round of playoffs.

He managed an overall record of 6W-7L-4D with Club Leon prior to resigning.

The team has a couple weeks to conduct the search, with the 2023 Clausura not kicking off until January 6.

Beyond Liga MX, the team must also prepare for international competition. Club Leon qualified to the Concacaf Champions League, alongside Pachuca, Atlas and Tigres UANL, after standing as the 2021 Apertura runner ups.
