Flamengo manager Renato Gaúcho joked that striker Gabriel Barbosa is still not ready to “see his DVD” despite Gabigol’s match-winning display against Bahia.
Barbosa scored a hat-trick to put the Rubro-Negro Brasileirão in complete control at the Fonte Nova Arena on Sunday.
Late goals from Pedro and Vitinho then added a gloss to Gaúcho’s first league game in charge.
Asked about the hat-trick hero, the recently-appointed boss said: “Gabigol needs no comment. He is an established striker with Flamengo’s shirt, has scored many goals, helped with titles, a national team player.
“His importance is very great. I will always charge him, for his quality, he always needs to help us.
“Since I arrived, he has been asking me about my DVD. I told him: ‘You’re not ready to see my DVD yet!'”
Gaúcho was referring to a famous complication of the best moments from his playing career in which he hit the net over 140 times.
The victory at Bahia was the Mengão’s third in a row since Rogério Ceni was unceremoniously sacked last Saturday.
