Flamengo manager Renato Gaúcho has admitted he was overwhelmed by his side’s first-half showcase against Juventude, calling it a ‘gala performance’.

Even though they were missing a large number of their regular starters, the Rubro-Negro overwhelmed the newly-promoted side with a trio of first-half goals which came just 23 minutes apart.

“I said something at half-time and I shouldn’t even say it now: it was a gala performance in the first 45 minutes.

“We don’t even have the integration of a team that plays together that often. The only problem in the second half was that we settled a little on the scoreboard.

“When we were without Pedro and Kenedy, the lack of rapport weighed a lot.

“At halftime, I asked for the same determination but it’s a normal thing in any club (to ease up) after you’ve made an elastic score. In the end, we got three more points and we’re in the fight.”

Flamengo will take on another newly-promoted outfit, Cuiabá, this weekend while also preparing for next Wednesday’s Copa do Brasil semi-final first leg against Athletico Paranaense
