Back in 2011, Southampton secured promotion from League One on the final day of the season with a 3-1 win over Walsall in front of nearly 32,000 at St Mary’s, ending their two-year spell in England’s third-flight.
The following year those magical Saints, spearheaded by 27 Championship goals along with 13 assists from Rickie Lambert, would earn back-to-back promotions to the Premier League, where they resided ever since.
Though Southampton would have went up due to Huddersfield failing their own match, it will always be remembered as one of the great nights in club history.
Surely St. Mary’s was the loudest it had been in several years when a young Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain bagged his 68th-minute goal to virtually seal promotion.
