Back in 2011 after his time at AC Milan came to an end, Ronaldinho was linked to a plethora of clubs and ended up choosing Flamengo over the likes of Grêmio, Corinthians, Palmeiras, Los Angeles Galaxy, and then-Premier League side Blackburn Rovers.
Ronaldinho was still just 30 years old and had more than enough to contribute with the Rubro-Negro, helping them sweep the Campeonato Carioca tournaments immediately after his arrival.
Ronaldinho, 40, would go on to score 28 goals in 72 appearances for the club, including a hat-trick to help Flamengo come from behind from 3-0 down to defeat Neymar and Santos 5-4 in what’s known as one of the greatest football matches ever played.
Unfortunately, Ronaldinho and Flamengo parted ways in May 2012 over a salary dispute. The 2005 Ballon d’Or winner would finish out his career at Atlético Mineiro, Querétaro, and Fluminense.
Ronaldinho is one of just seven players in the history of football to have won the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA Champions League, and the Ballon d’Or.
