With Maarten Stekelenburg, John Heitinga, Jaap Stam, Edgar Davids, Ryan Babel, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, and Wesley Sneijder amongst others in the squad, it’s unbelievable how the 2006-07 Ajax side only took home a single trophy that season.

That campaign was one of the most exciting title races in Eredivisie history, with PSV earning the league title over Ajax, winning by just a single goal via goal difference after both teams finished on 75 points.

However, Ajax was able to get a huge one on their league rivals, beating them 5-1 exactly 13 years ago today, coming up with the biggest away win in the league that season.

This match also provided one of the more famous funny moments in football history, with Edgar Davids nearly knocking out PSV goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes after his 35-yard volley struck the post and smacked Gomes in the head.

Thankfully Gomes wasn’t seriously hurt, but he got up only for Sneijder to score immediately from the resulting corner to make it 2-0 right before half-time.

Unfortunately for Ajax fans, PSV would have the last laugh, winning 5-1 against Vitesse on the final day while Ajax ‘only’ beat Willem II 2-0, which gave PSV the title.
