The Azteca miracle. You literally could not script this any better if you’re a Club América supporter.
Facing Clásico Joven rivals Cruz Azul in the second leg of the 2013 Liga MX Apertura final, América were down 2-0 very late with title hopes fading fast.
To make matters worse, América had been down to 10 men since the 20th minute. But in the 88th minute, Aquivaldo Mosquera’s header gave América a much-needed lifetime.
Then, the unthinkable happened. In an act of desperation, Miguel Herrera sent goalkeeper Moisés Muñoz up into the box for a late corner and what happened next led to one of the most famous pundit calls in football history.
América then went on to win 4-2 in the penalty shootout to bring Miguel Herrera, suit and all, to his knees in the pouring rain.
Imagine being at a match like that. Unbelievable.
