Remembering Andrea

Article image:Remembering Andrea

It's been 30 years since the tragic passing of Andrea Fortunato.

If it is true that there are times when words may seem superfluous, it is equally true that sometimes words are precisely the right tool to paint a memory, a moment, to relive an emotion.

And so, on an occasion like this, we felt it right to rely on the thoughts - and indeed, words - of those who knew Andrea best, and those who loved him most.

Like us.

GIANCARLO MAROCCHI

Ciao Andrea, it's been thirty years since you left us, but the memories live on. I had a great companion, with a wonderful smile. The fans loved this great full-back, with his long hair, darting down the left flank.

At least those memories will never leave us.

Goodbye.

FABRIZIO RAVANELLI

The memory of Andrea always lives inside me, I remember him with great affection: we had already met during our military service and then when he arrived at Juve, it was a nice surprise for me, because we strengthened our friendship even more.

A guy like him could have the world in his hands because he was a fantastic player, he had explosive, incredible strength, but he also had important technical qualities, perhaps he could be considered a ‘new Cabrini’, also because of his thick hair.

He had started very strongly at Juventus, he had also been called up to the national team, then came this cursed illness that took him away from us.

However, I think Andrea will always remain in our hearts, he had a very strong character, a strong personality, he had everything to be able to become one of the strongest left-backs in Italy.

This illness took him away from us too soon and it shook us all: Juve, his family, mum Lucia, dad Peppino, his brother Candido.

I also believe that Andrea, with his illness, helped to improve and develop science to be able to save so many lives, as shown by the issue of the blood passport, which is very important for prevention: perhaps, from heaven, it can help so many kids to save themselves.

So, ‘Andri’, I send you a big kiss, I always think of you and I will always carry you in my heart.

ANGELO DI LIVIO

Andrea Fortunato left too soon, unfortunately illness took him from us, but our memory is indelible, he will always remain within us, because he was a formidable, extraordinary, kind and good person.

Football-wise, he really had a future ahead of him, because he was very good.

We always carry him in our hearts.

MASSIMO CARRERA

When Andrea arrived at Juve he was young, but from the first training session we immediately understood that he had something strong, something beautiful. He immediately showed, despite his young age, that he had great personality, great charisma. Then he was very humble, and he applied himself with professionalism and passion.

He was very determined in what he did because he knew what he wanted to do when he grew up, so he wanted to be a footballer. He was an intelligent, serious, polite guy and he was a technical, eclectic player. He was a very interesting profile and would certainly have become a great champion.
