One journalist has just offered what many Chelsea fans could see as a calming update on the Mike Maignan to Chelsea deal.

This news comes after Chelsea beat Real Betis to win the Conference League a week ago today after being a goal down at half time and turning it around.

EXCLUSIVE!! ‘Good progress’ on Ekitike, #CFC negotiate lower Gittens fee, Felix trade deal possible, Grealish could help Rogers move!

The Blues ended up winning the game 4-1 in the end after a bit of a Cole Palmer masterclass in the second half, providing two beautiful assists for his team mates to grab crucial goals.

Although head coach Enzo Maresca is once again not willing to get carried away after this by insisting that Chelsea’s target for next season is not going to be winning the Champions League!

Bad news on Maignan

Fabrizio Romano, who gave this deal a 60% chance of happening just this morning, is now saying that Chelsea and AC Milan are far off from agreeing a transfer fee for Chelsea to sign Mike Maignan this summer.

However, to me it just looks a lot like negotiation tactics from Chelsea in this instance as they attempt to get the overall fee down as much as they can. Penny pinching? Yes, probably a bit, but they need to get this done.

Jacobs offers a bit of calm

Journalist Ben Jacobs has just put his latest out on the situation, and he’s actually offered a bit of calmness on it.

He posted on X:

‘Situation with Mike Maignan remains the same. Milan want £20-25m, as reported yesterday.

‘Chelsea likely to offer less, but add-ons may prove important if the parties can get closer on the financials.

‘Maignan is an opportunistic target but Chelsea also remain content with their existing keepers and will still rank them during Club World Cup and pre-season as planned. The real priority is still a left winger.

‘It will all come down to whether Milan wish to risk losing Maignan on a free or feel other suitors will be tempted by their asking price. Player open to Chelsea.’
