Yesterday news broke that former Watford, AFC Wimbledon and Rangers forward Dapo Mebude had been rushed to hospital following a car crash. The current Oostende player was in a critical condition, with fears that the incident could prove to be fatal. However, the club released a statement late last night confirming that the 22-year-old had undergone successful surgery. It is still not known the cause of the accident, or the extent of the injuries sustained by Mebude, but there is certainly relief that he survived the crash.

The forward was on his way to a friendly game against Knokke FC, which was subsequently cancelled. From reports by Het Nieuwsblad, the player had to be cut free from his car by the Belgian fire services before he was rushed to hospital for urgent surgery. As with everyone in Belgium, the thoughts of the team at Get Football are with Mebude and his family and we hope that he will be able to return to the field at some point in the future.

The forward began his career with Rangers in Scotland, but only made one appearance for the first team. He had loan spells with Queen of the South and Wimbledon before joining Watford. He was not with the Hornets for long prior to joining Oostende in the summer transfer window of 2022.
