Fabrizio Romano: Tottenham Hotspur agree terms with Fraser Forster regarding a summer transfer

According to the transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to terms with Fraser Forster regarding a move in the summer transfer window. He is set to leave Southampton at the end of this season as a result and would make his way to N17.

Forster will become a free agent this summer as a contract extension with the Saints seems out of the cards. Mike McGrath of The Telegraph on Twitter has already revealed that the shot-stopper will undergo his medical tests this week to facilitate a move to Tottenham.

Now, Romano has confirmed that the Englishman is set to join Spurs after reaching a full agreement over a summer transfer. The shot-stopper will sign his new contract shortly, and he will become the second choice goalkeeper behind Hugo Lloris for the next campaign.

Great signing!

The 34-year-old’s signing is a great piece of business by the North Londoners as Forster has proven that he can still perform at a solid level for a few more years. After all, he has been excellent for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side after becoming a starter following Alex McCarthy’s hamstring injury in December.

Forster’s imminent arrival would mean that Pierluigi Gollini will return to Atalanta after his season-long loan spell with us. That is for the best, as Gollini has not shown any signs of being good enough to warrant a spot moving forward. Furthermore, the £12.9million buy-option in his contract is quite expensive for a backup goalkeeper as well.

This update would come as a surprise to some of the supporters since we have also been linked with a move to West Bromwich star Sam Johnstone. However, Romano also confirmed in a previous tweet that Antonio Conte’s side had no serious interest in signing Johnstone.

It appears that we have chosen Forster’s valuable experience in the Premier League over Johnstone’s value as the latter would also have been available on a free transfer. Moreover, the Championship ace is much younger, but that seems to have not convinced Conte enough for his side to take this stance.

We have already seen how the lack of experience has prevented Gollini from cementing a spot in the team. While Johnstone has done well in the second tier of football in England, the top division is at a different level indeed. He has had a short stint with West Brom in the PL and has impressed during that period, but that seems to be not enough in Conte’s eyes as of now.

We have to wait and see whether there will be further information on the finer details of Forster’s transfer in the coming weeks. The fans would hope that Fabio Paratici has negotiated a great deal for us which would reduce the financial blow on our budget as we have other areas that need to be bolstered as well.
