Fabrizio Romano: Tottenham Hotspur reveal asking price for Giovani Lo Celso

According to the transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur have named the price tag it would take for them to facilitate a permanent transfer for Giovani Lo Celso this summer. He has endured a tough time at N17 despite showing flashes of brilliance on several occasions.

That being said, Lo Celso has turned things around during his loan spell at Villarreal, having joined them in January. Now, Tottenham are looking to cut their cost with the midfielder, having slapped a €20million valuation for his services. He will return to England this summer, but it seems that a permanent exit is on the cards based on this update.

Following a successful time at Estadio de la Ceramica, the Spanish club wants to keep hold of the Argentinian permanently moving forward. They are eager to sign Lo Celso, with Unai Emery being keen on finalising a move as well. However, Romano states that an agreement has not been reached with Spurs so far.

Good decision?

The North London side had signed the 26-year-old from Real Betis for a fee of £27.2million back in 2020. He had initially joined us on a loan deal before the move was made permanent back then. However, he has failed to showcase the quality he had shown in Spain and for his national club.

It seems that we are willing to endure a considerable loss to part ways with the South American after this term. One would have thought that Lo Celso’s excellent displays for Argentina and the Yellow Submarines would have prompted Antonio Conte’s side to recoup as much money as possible.

But that seems not to be the case, as the club appears to be ready to sell the Argentine midfielder for quite a loss. Perhaps the board does not want to waste their time trying to make the interested parties meet that valuation and raise a quick sum to add to their budget for this summer.

After all, we need to back Conte in the summer transfer window, which would mean that there must be adequate funds to meet his demands. Finding world-class players would be expensive indeed, so it is important to have enough money in the bag as early as possible.

As such, the management could be looking to do just that by raising funds as quickly as possible. Lo Celso’s current valuation makes him very attractive indeed, and perhaps we can agree to terms with the La Liga side in the coming weeks.

Then again, nothing is confirmed just yet, but the fans would hope for a positive outcome soon enough. Conte’s team could also look to add some clauses in the deal so that they may receive small bonuses in the future if Lo Celso does become quite a success in the future.
