It looks like one of the longest transfer sagas in modern football history could be coming to an end. News broke earlier this week Borussia Dortmund had rejected Manchester United’s opening offer for Jadon Sancho, but according to new reports, there is confidence at the club that a deal is now likely.

Manchester United were heavily linked with Sancho last summer, but failed to get a deal over the line after the German club’s €120m valuation of the winger.

And according to well sourced Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic, a deal this summer is now likely. Sancho was one of 26 players to be called up to Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad and is likely to feature in the Three Lions’ opening game against Croatia on Sunday.

Hopes of confirming the transfer before England begin their tournament are said to have been just that, hopes, rather than expectation.

It is claimed that there is more belief this year that an agreement with Borussia Dortmund, after their valuation dropped closer to €100m. It is reported that Manchester United’s offer for Sancho, which was rejected, was at €88m, including bonuses, with Dortmund holding out for a three-figure sum.

With just over €10m difference in valuation between the clubs, the publication claims that the deal is now largely down to bonuses. Manchester United are known to operate with many clauses, offering up as little as possible up-front.
