Enzo Maresca’s release clause at Leicester City increased after their promotion to the Premier League, amid Chelsea considering him as their next manager, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

The Italian guided Leicester back to the Premier League this season at the first time of asking, but the Foxes might not be able to hold on to him.

Chelsea are holding talks with Maresca’s camp as they weigh up whether to offer him the Stamford Bridge job.

If Chelsea do go for Maresca though they will need to pay Leicester more for his services than would have been the case if the Foxes had not got promoted.

The release clause in Maresca’s contract has now gone up to over £9m.

Chelsea are unlikely to be put off by the manager’s price tag if they do conclude he is the right man to take over at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca’s Leicester managed to overcome a late drop in form in the Championship to haul themselves over the line for automatic promotion.

The club could have to cope without Maresca back in the Premier League however, with the Chelsea job looming as a possibility for the 44-year-old.
