Ernest Nuamah (20) had looked set to leave Olympique Lyonnais for Fulham FC on transfer deadline day. According to a report by L’Équipe, the London club sent its entire medical staff to Lyon on Thursday to visit the player and have him sign a contract the following day.
However, a deal which would see Lyon receive €19 million and 30% of any future sell-on fee would ultimately fall through. The French outlet reports that Nuamah was visibly upset and in tears during his medical examination, and just before the tests were concluded the forward left without telling anyone (including his entourage) and never came back to finalise the deal.
It’s been said that the player loves Lyon and wants to experience European football with the team, with L’Équipe writing that Nuamah rejected multiple offers with lucrative salaries to play in England and Saudi Arabia. Lyon’s owner John Textor has reportedly sent Nuamah a letter of apology, telling the forward that he belongs at the club.
The paper suggests that the relationship between the club hierarchy and Nuamah has improved since Friday and that the Ghanaian international will be reinstated into the squad particularly as the club were unable to secure a replacement for the forward.
