Reiss Nelson says he’s ‘ready to start’ after Feyenoord sub debut | OneFootball

Reiss Nelson finally made his debut in a competitive fixture for Feyenoord on Saturday, coming on in a 2-2 draw with Waalwijk.

Arsenal loanee Reiss Nelson joined Feyenoord at the end of August, but he had to wait a while for his debut.

Due to some fitness issues when he first completed the move, Nelson was unavailable for match action until recently. He played his first friendly match for the club over the international break, but finally got some competitive minutes this weekend.

Nelson came on against Waalwijk at 2-2 with 30 minutes to go, and he had a positive impact overall.

The winger created two chances, including one big chance, and he had a good opportunity of his own to score. Unfortunately, Waalwijk goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen was in top form, and he managed to keep all the late chances out.

Despite the lack of a winning goal, Nelson will be pleased to be making progress. After a month out, it’s good to see him playing, and even better that he’s quickly getting involved in the chances for Feyenoord.

“I’m happy that I made my debut,” Nelson said afterwards. “It’s been happening for some time in the background, me working hard at the training ground to get to match fitness and to feel fresh again. I think I’ve done that.

“For me, my aim is to score goals and to assist goals for the team. Today I didn’t do that, but I felt strong, I felt good in my one-v-one battles and I think I created some good chances.”

Now he just needs a start, and he suggested he’s ready for one now.

“This 30 minutes was just a start-up,” Nelson added. “Of course, I can play much more. Like I said, I’m ready to start.”
