Reiss Nelson’s new Arsenal contract is set to earn him £100,000 a week and a signing bonus, according to a report.

Santi Aouna reports for FootMercato that Reiss Nelson will sign a contract extension with Arsenal until 2027 when he returns from vacation, with the option for a further year.

Aouna claims the new deal should hit £100,000 a week, and his signing bonus is around £5m.

The salary isn’t a particularly surprising figure, as previous reports had suggested Arsenal were offering Nelson significantly more than his current £60,000 a week.

As for the signing bonus, Arsenal will view that as a much cheaper alternative than paying a transfer fee to bring in a winger of Nelson’s quality.

Fabrizio Romano claimed earlier this week that Arsenal had reached a full agreement with Nelson, with the player verbally agreeing to the new contract.

Nelson had turned down at least two previous offers from Arsenal, and had Brighton, Fulham, Aston Villa, and AC Milan after him.

Ligue 1 club Nice were also previously mentioned as a possible destination.

But the boyhood Gunner is now set to commit his future to the club where he got his breakthrough.

At 23, Nelson’s new deal will hopefully take him through to his peak years.

Nelson made just 18 appearances and five starts for Arsenal this season, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

Yet there was always a sense that Mikel Arteta believed in him more than that makes it seem, regularly bringing him up for praise in press conferences unprompted.

If it wasn’t for Gabriel Martinelli’s fantastic form and Nelson’s mid-season injuries, perhaps he would have been much more involved in 2022/23.
