Vitor Reis has spoken glowingly of the reception he’s received from fellow Brazilian Savinho on joining Manchester City.

Our new January signing says Savinho reached out to welcome him on social media after his move from Palmeiras.

“I already had the chance to speak to Savinho,” he said.

“He’s a really nice guy. He rang me and we had a nice chat, so that helps a lot.

“I started following him on Instagram and he texted me saying: ‘Where are you? I’m waiting for you’.

“I was well surprised. I had no idea how friendly he is. So we had a nice chat and I really appreciated that.”

Reis becomes the latest in a long line of Brazilians to play for City, including the likes of Elano, Fernandinho, Gabriel Jesus, Ederson and, of course, new friend Savinho.

The 19-year-old centre-half insists the fact City have a strong connection with his country, especially with players in the current squad, will only help him settle into Manchester.

“It helps a lot with welcoming,” he continued.

“It will be a period of adaptation, especially with the language and the weather.

“So they will help me a lot during this period and will help me understand a lot more.”

Despite his tender years, Reis will bring leadership qualities to the Etihad.

He's been a captain throughout his rise up the age groups at his former club, Palmeiras.

And he lifted the lid on this aspect of his game as he now gets set to don the sky blue shirt for the 2024/25 season and beyond.

“For me it was very natural,” Reis added.

“Since a very young age, since the Under-11s, I was a captain so it’s very natural for me to have that leadership.

“I love speaking to everyone and to help on the pitch in any way, so it was very natural for me.”
