Reinildo Mandava has returned to action with Atlético Madrid after a lengthy period on the sidelines. The defender played in the club’s 1-0 win over Sevilla on Saturday, his first game since 25 February, when he suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the derby against Real Madrid.
Reinildo had become an important part of Diego Simeone’s side since his arrival in January 2022 and as reported by AS, he was a starter in 50 of his 54 games at Atlético before his injury.
He came on in the 73rd minute of the club’s victory earlier today. Getting Reinildo back is a major boost for Atlético ahead of the second half of the season and the Champions League last-16 tie against Serie A side Inter.
The defender has been called up to the Mozambique squad for the Africa Cup of Nations. His national team play against Egypt on 14 January and have a tough group, also facing Cape Verde and Ghana.
