Veteran Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina is set to hang up his gloves at the conclusion of this season.
The 42-year-old is currently playing for Italian side Como, who will wrap up their Serie A schedule by facing Inter Milan at home on Friday.
Reina, a product of Barcelona's youth system, was a member of the Spanish national team that lifted the 2010 World Cup, as well as the European Championships in 2008 and 2012.
He moved to Liverpool from Villarreal in 2005, securing both the FA Cup and League Cup during his time at Anfield. Reina also earned the Premier League Golden Glove – awarded to the goalkeeper with the most shutouts – for three consecutive seasons starting in 2005-06.
The Spanish shot-stopper featured in 394 matches for Liverpool before departing in 2014, later having stints with Bayern Munich, Napoli, AC Milan, Aston Villa, Lazio, a return to Villarreal, and finally Como.
In 2023, he reached the milestone of 1,000 senior appearances when he played for Villarreal.
"A very beautiful career is coming to an end, a very full life," Reina told Movistar. "I feel very fortunate for what I've experienced.
"I didn't expect it, but I think the time has come and I feel like bringing it to a close here."
