According to a report from L’Équipe, Stade de Reims have their sights set on Ligue 2 defender Formose Mendy (22). Loïc Tanzi also reports that Les rouges et blancs could acquire the Amiens SC player before the closure of the transfer window this evening.
The 22-year-old has attracted attention from other European clubs, with both Premier League side West Ham United and AS Monaco previously linked to Mendy. A potential move to London became complicated due to working visa requirements, and the Principality club appeared poised to hijack the deal. Scouts for Les Monégasques were present at Amiens’ game against Le Havre this weekend (1-1), but a deal for the Senegalese international has not been finalised.
It appears that a fellow Ligue 1 side, Reims, are now in the best position to secure Mendy’s services. With Reims currently 11th in the French top flight, manager Will Still may hope to make use of Mendy’s defensive prowess. He has contributed to five clean sheets across 17 appearances in the league this season for Les Licornes.
