Tijjani Reijnders assures he was not interested in other proposals and was eager to pen his new contract. ‘Milan feels like a second family.’

The midfielder had arrived from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2023 for €20.5m plus bonuses and has gone from strength to strength at San Siro.

His current contract was due to run to June 2028, but he was at the club headquarters this afternoon to put pen to paper on a new and improved deal to June 2030.

“It’s a big compliment, I am very proud to renew my contract. Milan feels like a family, I am looking forward to the next couple of seasons,” Reijnders told reporters.

The midfielder had received proposals and interest from abroad, including the Premier League and LaLiga clubs, but he was determined to stick with Milan.

“That’s why I signed. It feels like my second home and I am very happy.”

According to reports, he had been earning €1.7m per season, but that will now surge to €3.5m plus bonuses.

Due to the limits on Italian contract lengths, the deal will only be deposited by the club in July.

However, the mood in the Rossoneri camp is dire following the elimination from the Champions League play-offs to Feyenoord, followed by three consecutive Serie A defeats.

These results left them floundering in ninth place in the table after 27 rounds.

“It’s a difficult time at the moment, it will be better, we will be stronger, we have to believe it will work out in the end,” concluded Reijnders.
