Referee Marco Piccinini should have given a red card to Miguel Veloso in Lazio’s loss to Hellas Verona yesterday.

Piccinini should have sent off Hellas Verona captain Miguel Veloso in the 9th minute after the Portuguese midfielder fouled Sergej Milinkovic-Savic whilst the Serbian was in on goal.

This was a crucial moment in the match and a red card to Veloso would have undoubtedly changed the game for Lazio, who went on to lose 4-1.

The night before, Bologna’s Adama Soumaoro was sent off in the team’s 4-2 loss to AC Milan after only 20 minutes for an incredibly similar incident.

The Italian press highlighted Piccinini’s mistake and also noted that he lost control of the match, with incidents often getting out of hand.
