When Reece James was played in on goal on Sunday, he had almost too much space and time.

We all know how dangerous his right boot is, but in this case he was one on one and had a lot of time to think about what he was going to do.

He struck it and for a second we thought Hugo Lloris had saved it, but in fact James had blasted it right through him, and we saw the net ripple soon after.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, James explained his thinking on the finish which almost won his team the game against Tottenham:

“I saw [Lloris] go down and I waited a bit, I wasn’t sure what to do, but luckily I scored. He went down very early, I think he tried to anticipate, and I took my chance.”

And then Thomas Tuchel was off down the side-line celebrating, and Stamford Bridge was on its feet. If only it could have stayed the winner, rather than being the penultimate chapter in the rollercoaster tale.
