Paul Gorst has given a pretty clear response on the recent speculation linking Raheem Sterling with a surprise return to Liverpool in a recent Q&A.
The Reds are looking out for a new attacker this summer to add to their ranks as the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi could well leave before the market is closed.
Indeed, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane have AFCON to deal with in the middle of next season and so it seems quite clear adding to the attacking ranks is a good idea this summer.
Sterling, then, is one name to be linked in what would be a pretty contentious move and, as per Gorst, it’s pretty unlikely it’s going to happen.
When asked if it was viable in the Echo’s Q&A, Gorst had this to say simply:
“Not at all.”
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
There’s little surprise here and now perhaps this rumour will go away for good.
Sterling has obvious talent but it’s hard to see him being welcomed back by the majority of Liverpool fans with the way he left the club for Manchester City in the first place.
Perhaps he will move on this summer but it’s likely going to be pretty much anywhere else rather than Liverpool.
