Liverpool do not believe there is a player available this month that is good enough or affordable enough for them to try and sign, meaning they’ll likely keep the squad as it is.

The Reds are in the midst of a pretty significant blip and it has seen them surrender top spot in the league to now be threatening to drop out of the top four by the time they next play in the top flight on Thursday.

Indeed, many have called for a new defender to come in and add both cover in that area and help the Reds refind their balance to allow better attacking phases but, of course, nothing has come in so far.

And, according to Chris Bascombe – Merseyside football reporter for the Telegraph – the inactivity is down to the fact the Reds feel there’s no-one of the right quality or price to make a play for in this current market.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

In an ideal world the Reds would have signed a defender early on in the January transfer window but the more the market has worn on, the more likely it has looked that a new signing for the back-line would not be arriving.

Indeed, these reasons perhaps make sense in the long-term but in the midst of what we’re seeing at the moment on the pitch, it still rankles a little bit.

Let’s hope the Reds can turn around as quickly as possible.
