Two Liverpool loanees played a key role as Hull City beat Coventry in a fixture that could have huge ramifications for the Championship season.

The 3-2 victory at the home of the FA Cup semi-finalists moved the Tigers to within one place and three points of the promotion play-off places with two games of the normal season left to play.

At the same time that their parent club were losing 2-0 in the Merseyside derby, both forward Fabio Carvalho and midfielder Tyler Morton started the game at the Coventry Building Society Arena which got off to a great start for the visitors.

As mentioned in Hull Daily Mail's player ratings, Carvalho "knitted everything together in a dominant first period". This included teeing up Jaden Philogene for the opening goal in the 31st minute.

Though Kasey Palmer soon equalised for the hosts, the 21-year-old was involved again just before half time as he "stayed calm to slam in the penalty" in first-half stoppage time.

Coventry levelled the scores again 13 minutes after the restart, but Hull, managed by Liam Rosenior, kept going and were rewarded with a late winner from substitute Noah Ohio.

In what was a high-intensity second half, Carvalho "worked himself into the ground for the cause" to earn a rating of 8/10.

An off night for Tyler Morton

While it was an excellent night for the Portuguese attacker, it was something of an off night for teammate Tyler Morton.

The 21-year-old midfielder was involved early on, blazing Philogene's cross over the bar. His cause wasn't helped when he picked up what looked very harsh booking before the break.

He was then "sacrificed in the second period with the game on a knife-edge" to earn a rating of 6/10.

Key players for Hull

Both players have been vital components of the Hull team this season.

Since heading to Humberside in January, Carvalho has made 18 appearances in the Championship, scoring nine goals and laying on one assist.

Morton, meanwhile, has played 39 domestic matches, scoring three goals and providing five assists.

Both players will likely get a chance to establish themselves under the next Liverpool manager during what will be a key pre-season for everyone at the club.
