Third tournament win in a row, Salzburg youngsters sixth

The Next Generation Trophy is over! The world-renowned U16 tournament once again attracted 12 teams from across the world to the Red Bull Football Academy to battle it out over three days.

One team set the pace for a third time in a row: Red Bull Bragantino beat New York Red Bulls 3-0 in the final with Player of the Tournament P. Silva and Diniz putting the South Americans in front before a fine Marchi effort from distance sealed it. Athletic Bilbao were third on the podium.

The local lads from Salzburg won their group to make the quarter-finals, only to be beaten by the eventual champions and GNK Dinamo Zagreb, to end the tournament in sixth.

Views

The Next Generation Trophy was once again a very exciting event for our boys. We saw that we can compete with the best teams in the world. That should give the players confidence. At the same time, we also know what we need to improve – and we will. We now have a whole season to work on that, so that we can bring as many boys as possible into our U18 team!
