Lionel Messi is standing at the cusp of history today, as his Argentina side will take on France in the FIFA World Cup final.

Breaking records is not a new theme for La Pulga, who has already become Argentina’s leading goalscorer in World Cup history, as he went past Gabriel Batistuta’s record of ten goals in all of tournament’s history.

But winning the World Cup today could make sure that Messi breaks more records and so can him making an appearance. As per Ole Argentina, Messi could go past Paolo Maldini today for playing the most number of minutes in a single World Cup edition. Maldini stands at 2217 minutes, with Messi at 2197 right now.

Messi could also equal Miroslav Klose’s record for the highest number of World Cup wins, with the German currently at 17 and Messi at 16. If Argentina beat Les Bleus in any other way apart from penalties, Messi will create that record.

If Messi scores today, he could become the only player to score atleast once from the Round of 16 of the tournament onwards. No other player has ever achieved that feat, as he will go past Antoine Griezmann, Wesley Sneijder and Zinedine Zidane.
