Arsenal edged Chelsea 1-0 after extra-time to lift the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup, in front of a record crowd for the final of 21,462.

Chelsea’s Mayra Ramirez fired home from outside the box but the goal was disallowed, as handball was given against Erin Cuthbert.

Hannah Hampton tipped over a 25-yard rocket from Katy McCabe, Lotte Wubben-Moy hooking over the angle from the resulting corner.

Cloe Lacasse had a clear opportunity to give the Gunners the lead midway through the second half but Hampton got down to make the save.

Lauren James might have won it for Chelsea with five minutes left of ninety but Manuela Zinsberger’s outstretched leg deflected the ball across the goalmouth and out for a corner.

Deep into stoppage-time, Arsenal’s Frida Maanum suffered a serious injury and was carried off on a stretcher.

In the first period of extra-time, McCabe headed narrowly wide but was give offside, James had an effort lose its sting by a block from Victoria Pelova.

Stina Blackstenius blasted over the Chelsea bar at the start of the second period of extra-time, James missed similarly at the other end moments later.

A swift counter attack ended with Alessia Russo shooting straight at Hampton but Arsenal did have the breakthrough with under five minutes to go, Caitlin Foord finding Blackstenius who worked space to get her shot off and into the net.
