Paris Saint-Germain were crowned champions of France on Saturday after a draw at Strasbourg.

With captain Kylian Mbappé leading the way alongside Lionel Messi, the club from the capital played out a nervy clash at Strasbourg.

Still, given PSG’s earlier work throughout the season, a 1-1 draw was enough for Christophe Galtier’s side to retain their title.

Messi opened the scoring and broke Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for most goals in Europe’s top five leagues (496) but former PSG ace Kevin Gameiro ensured the points were split.

Regardless of the result, it is now a record-breaking 11th Ligue 1 title for the club, one more than AS Saint-Étienne’s count.

PSG have 85 points with one game still to go and could record their highest tally since 2018-19 with a win on the final day.

Yet even with winning the Ligue 1 title, the season may be seen as another blip with no Coupe de France title or Champions League trophy. Off-field issues also took centre stage.

As a result, it remains to be seen what the future holds for their exit-linked stars such as Messi, Neymar, Marco Verratti and Galtier.

Lens secured second place in the table and pipped third-place Marseille to the automatic Champions League spot with a 3-0 win over Ajaccio at home.

Rennes (currently fifth) then beat Monaco (sixth) 2-0 while at the other end of the table, two penalties saw Nantes fall 2-1 to Lille (fourth) and they sit two points off of safety heading into the final day.
