Last year, the Los Angeles Galaxy got the better of the Vancouver Whitecaps. They would go on to finish the season better than their Canadian adversary. The defending champion's new away uniforms failed to provide enough of a spark to win the game.
This year is shaping up to mimic the 2023 MLS regular season when the Whitecaps got the better of the LA Galaxy twice. Furthermore, the six-time league champions did not qualify for the postseason that year.
At their current pace, the Los Angeles Galaxy are at risk of missing out on the playoffs. In 2024, they lost just eight games. Already, they have racked up a fourth of that number,
The game was off to a rough start for the Los Angeles Galaxy. Sam Adeekugbe scored his scored goal of the season at the 2nd minute of the game. Fortunately, the LA Galaxy responded with a goal of their own.
In the 39th minute, Gabriel Pec scored on a left footed shot. The assist was credited to forward Miguel Berry.
In a rare formation choice, a 4-4-2, the LA Galaxy failed to capitalize on their 15 shot attempts with four of them being on target. Vancouver had just six shot attempts with two being on target.
That was enough for the Whitecaps to lock in another three points on the MLS Western Conference Standings. LA Galaxy's six corner kicks to Vancouver's one was not enough, either, to sway the result of this game in their favor.
Novak Micovic started for the second game in a row. Miki Yamane was not listed as available. Both Marco Reus and Christian Ramirez were subs in this game, as well.
Next up for the Los Angeles Galaxy is Herediano on Wednesday. This game is the first leg of the Round of 16 for the Concafac Cup Championship. The second leg will be played a week later in Carson, California.
