In perhaps the LA Galaxy's best offensive showing of the year, the defending MLS champions put the other teams on notice during their opening match for the 2025 Leagues Cup. With a 5-2 win against Club Tijuana, the LA Galaxy made a strong case to win their group this tournament.

It didn't take long for the six-time MLS Cup winners to light up the score board. The first goal of the game came from Matheu Nascimento in the 17th minute. Once he connected on the early penalty kick, the LA Galaxy held a brief 1-0 lead.

Club Tijuana's Gilbert Mota found the back of the net four minutes later. His goal tied it up 1-1 until Gabriel Pec scored in the 39th minute. With a 2-1 lead entering the half, the LA Galaxy were on their way to their first victory in his year's Leagues Cup.

That is until ...

Less than 15 minutes into the second half, Mota netted his second goal in the game. With the game tied up again, 2-2, the LA Galaxy lost their lead and some of their momentum.

Joseph Paintsil played great in the second half as he made as many goals as Tijuana did the whole game. With his first one coming in the 65th minute, the LA Galaxy never looked back.

Marco Reus, the LA Galaxy's Player of the Month in May and June, joined the scoring fun. He put one past Tijuana's goalkeeper, Antonio Rodriguez. Paintsil was credited with the assist before adding the LA Galaxy's fifth goal of the game.

With a beautiful pass from veteran defender Miki Yamane, the LA Galaxy finished Tijuana off, 5-2. The Los Angeles Galaxy used five subs in the game: Christian Ramirez, Lucas Sanabria, John Nelson, Isaiah Parente, and Yamane.

Next up for the Galaxy is Cruz Azul, who lost 7-0 to the Seattle Sounders in their first Leagues Cup match. This game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m (PT) and 9:30 p.m. (CT) on Sunday evening.
