According to L’Équipe, the latest medical examinations on Alberth Elis (28) were reassuring after the FC Girondins de Bordeaux player suffered severe head trauma against EA Guingamp on the 24th of February.

Elis was transferred immediately to a hospital where he was medically induced into a coma and then operated on. On the 28th of February, the player’s family provided an update, and while they stressed caution, they were able to notify that Elis was “recovering gradually”.

It is too soon to say whether there will be any long-term effects to the player, but on Saturday he was able to watch Bordeaux’s fixture against Rodez AF on television from his hospital room. The club paid tribute to Elis by wearing shirts with “Fuerza Pantera #Elis” in the warmup, while their matchday kit all featured his name.

Elis will follow a rehabilitation programme for the coming months, while the possibility that he may continue his career has not yet been discussed while he recovers from a frightening incident.
