Real Sociedad still have work to do in the transfer window, with Mikel Merino expected to depart, and Robin Le Normand yet to be replaced and a striker on Imanol Alguacil’s wish list. With Merino’s move to Arsenal close, they should at least have some money with which to do so.
La Real have been linked with several central defenders, but are expected to give youngster Jon Martin plenty of run in the first team this season too, and do not want to block his progress. That was confirmed by President Jokin Aperribay earlier this week. As per Diario de Gipuzkoa, the Txuri-Urdin are weighing up a move for 35-year-old free agent Mats Hummels.
While a switch to RCD Mallorca was rumoured and then laughed off, La Real are looking at the former Borussia Dortmund captain as a potential addition after he terminated his contract. He has rumoured interest from Italy too, but would meet all of the requisites above.
In addition, The Athletic note that Real Sociedad are an option for Real Madrid youngster Alvaro Rodriguez. The 20-year-old is expected to leave on loan or permanently this summer. La Real have been heavily linked with Borja Mayoral of Getafe, but are trying to move on Umar Sadiq too. Sheraldo Becker and Mikel Oyarzabal can play through the middle, but injury-prone Carlos Fernandez is their only other conventional striker outside of the Nigerian.
